I took these images of Colchester Castle, Essex, England in B&W... seemed fitting to it's past!!... too sombre to be a Royal residence it later became a prison....built on the site of a Roman Temple its "keep" (completed 12th century) the largest in Europe..... 1683 John Weeley tried dismantling for the raw materials.....but the construction was so strong only the top could be removed...... Aquired by Charles Gray mid 19th century & roofed to provide galleries for the towns collection of Roman & British artefacts it gradually became a museum ........something for all the family so I can highly recommend a visit
